Featured Projects

Emory Health Sciences Research Building II (HOK)

The Emory Health Sciences Research Building II (HSRB-II) is a new LEED Gold certified, 350,000 sq ft biomedical laboratory building on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta, GA. As the largest academic health sciences building in Georgia, HSRB-II houses sensitive core research and lab facilities accommodating over 1,200 researchers across diverse specialties with advanced imaging equipment and other state-of-the-art technology with stringent allowable vibration criteria. The superstructure houses two distinct towers of office and laboratory spaces, which are interconnected by 15 interior pedestrian bridges that traverse a six-story central atrium daylit by a 30’ tall by 95’ long skylight. The successful execution of the HSRB-II project relied upon a proactive structural engineering design approach to address challenging existing conditions, programmatic constraints, and leading-edge sustainability targets.

159 Armour Drive (Stability Engineering)

Warehouse to office & assembly adaptive reuse by Stability Engineering. A former 1950s era one-story light industrial warehouse was transformed into a two-story office and assembly use.  The project included several design modifications and iterations during the course of construction to adjust and adapt the building heights and spaces to accommodate tenant requests. The project required using a hybrid of materials to achieve the client’s goals, including new steel and wood framing and new and modified concrete and helical pile foundations, while the existing historic masonry façade and some architectural details of the original building were retained. Key considerations to ensure the safety, functionality, and longevity of the space were prioritized in this comprehensive approach to renovating and retrofitting the building.

Atrium Health Amphitheater *Uzun+Case and Stanley D. Lindsey and Associates Collaboration)

The Atrium Health Amphitheater in Macon, GA is a regionally significant outdoor venue that exemplifies the power of early and sustained collaboration between the structural engineer of record and the erection engineering team. Anchored by a striking 40,000 sq. ft. canopy spanning the entire seating bowl, the project demanded innovative structural solutions—such as a rigid box truss-column frame, post-tensioned grade beam in the foundation system, and advanced staged construction analysis—to meet ambitious aesthetic, budgetary, and constructability goals. Close coordination between design and erection teams enabled the resolution of complex challenges including truss deflection, stability during lifting, and field fit-up, all while preserving the architectural vision and ensuring efficient erection. This collaboration resulted in a structurally elegant, materially efficient, and constructible solution that not only defines the amphitheater’s iconic presence but also supports the broader revitalization of the Macon Mall area.
