Program

//www.seaog.org/images/Gulfport Aquarium.jpgCurrently under construction, the Mississippi Aquarium in Gulfport will be an exciting family-oriented facility anticipated to be an economic development catalyst in the region that still has not fully recovered from Katrina. Being constructed on a site flooded during the 2005 hurricane, the facility is expected to bring in almost half a million visitors a year along with creating approximately 100 direct jobs along with 800 indirect jobs. Future home to a mix of indoor and outdoor exhibits, the facility consists of multiple buildings that will contain 1 million gallons of both salt and fresh water.

This presentation will focus on some of the unique engineering challenges on the project. Including, flood mitigation, wind considerations, tank designs, acrylic panels including the 30 foot tunnel through the tank, and unique requirements of aquariums.
